Hey golfnut64,
The colors and instructions that come with the 555P are correct.
For data and sync, you'll find Gray/orange and WHITE/ green.
I think the 'ignition' is neither BLACK/ White nor Blue but rather RED / Yellow. Ether way it's easy to test.

TACHOMETER     |     grn/wht or grn/yel

there is an ignition coil for each of the eight cylinders.  The closest one to the front of the motor on the drivers side has GREEN / WHITE or GREEN/ YELLOW wire

Sounds like you missed an ign or acc wire. There are 2nd ACC and 2nd IGN wires that need to be powered up. Here they are:

IGNITION                              WHITE/ yellow        |+  |ignition harness

SECOND IGNITION             pink/black          |+  |ignition harness
ACCESSORY                      BLACK/ lt. green     |+  |ignition harness
SECOND ACCESSORY   gray yellow *      |+  |ignition harness

*This wire must be powered as an accessory. If powered as a 2nd ignition the gauges will not function properly.
