My wife just had an Auto Mate keyless entry and remote start installed and we are having problems with it. The door locks will not work from the keypad if you lock the door manually the lights just work some of the time. Also the locks are locking when the car is turned on and they are not suppose to lock till put in drive.I was wondering if anyone had one of these to know if they are nothing but problems are should I just get the shop to fix the problems and everything should be fine. Also I was wondering if anyone knew who made this product and if there is a website I could look at it.

I had an AutoMate alarm on my previous car and the dealer(a very reputable one, website at www.iratoyota.com) told me that they only use Automate alarms and Automate remote starts and no other company's alarm or remote start. I asked them if they would install an alarm I purchased from Omega. The manager there tells me no and that his technicians are well trained to use only Automate. So I would assume they're decent enough(the Automate alarms). That makes me doubt that either whoever did your installation did not do it well or the unit might be defective.

The manufacturer is DEI.   As far as the locks locking when you turn the key on, this is the way the alarm is set up so the alarm is locking the doors, this IS normal. As far as the other problems, what type of car do you have and what exactly is it doing?

The  car is a 2004 Impala. The locks just started doing this today and she has had the system about a week. It is not a alarm it is just keyless entry and remote start. When you lock the doors manually and shut the door then the remote does not lock or unlock the doors. You have to unlock the door with the key then get in and start the car. Once the car is started you can lock and unlock the car with the remote. The lights stay on sometimes when you start the car and sometimes they do not stay on.Also know the service engine soon light is coming on and the security light has come on a few times and the factory alarm goes off when you cut the car off.

Since your car is brand new and the dealer installed the alarm(assuming he did), your best bet is to take your 2004 Impala back to the dealer and ask him to get it right. If it was installed by a shop, then take the car to the shop that installed to get it straigtened out. Also since the "service engine soon" light is coming on, they(whoever) may have wired it incorrectly or a loose connection or even perhaps there might be some connection not properly matching with the onboard computers such as ECU etc. Can't think of anything else at the moment.

That is what we are going to try to do is take it to the shop and have it fixed. She had just the remote start and i worked fine, but had no range.Know she is saying she just wants the remote start in and no extended range on the remote. You think the auto mate problems are just miner, because I am trying to convince her to keep it in for the extended range.

It could be a number of things.
Do the doors lock if you reached in with the door open and start the car.
If they do, you would be locked out if you closed the door
They may have some of the wires crossed or not wired right.
The DEALER (car lot)sales cars. if they didn’t have an outside shop do the install, then they had one of their guys do it. they might not know the in's and out's of installing. my point is, if the one who installed it only does a few a month or every couple of months then they really don’t have the knowledge that they should have to do these installs.
Take it back and see if they can fix the problems. If they can't, have them remove it and go somewhere else.
Good Luck
