Hi, I have a 94 camaro v6 that I was installing a remote starter on. I've been trying to make it work for about 2 days now, and everything is hooked up correctly (afaik). The only problem is it works about 1/2 the time I try to start it by remote . My car has VATS (Vehicle Anti Theft System). It has two white wires in an orange sleeve going to the lock cylinder in the steering column that enables it to start when the right key is used. The key simply has a 1130ohm resistor in it. I tried cutting the two white wires and connecting them with a 1130 ohm resistor, which is why it works _some_ of the time I believe, but I would like it to work ALL time time. When it goes to start but doesn't, you can hear a clicking sound from the engine (injectors I assume), but it doesn't turn over or even attempt to. Does this sound like I am doing something wrong bypassing VATS, doing something wrong with the remote starter, or something else?
I appreciate the help if anyone can offer any.

Yes, that is what it will do if the VATS system is not bypassed properly. If your r/s has an output for disabling this type of system, you might want to wire a relay in so that the system is not permanently bypassed. This also keeps you from possibly getting stranded. I think the resistance has to be within 5%. Try these out. These are the accurate values of the resistance.

Well, I am sure the resistor I am using is correct, but I guess I'll try the relay method as well, who knows, it might work.

well, if the in line resistor did not work, then the relay will not help. It basicly puts the resistor in the line only during remost start, any other time it would use the key. Does the vehicle start every time with the key with the VATS wires cut and the resistor wired in or does it only start sometimes with the key? If it starte every time with the key with the resistor wired in with no relay and the vats wires cut, your problem is elsewhere, not with the vats bypass.

make sure that the resistance is within 5% of the facotyr resistance.

Does it start every time with the key with the resistor wired in with the wires cut?

sorry 1%, and resitirs are not the same every time, so you might want to recheck your resotor reading on a DMM ieht that of the keys.

OK, I am 100% positive my VATS bypass I made works. I tried starting it with a blank key (no pellet) and it works EVERY time. So that means the problem is somewhere else. What else would cause the engine to just "click" when the remote starter tries to start it? I have checked all my connections and they all seem to work fine.

How did you make the connections ? With solder and tape or did you just loop the wires through and tape ( no solder ) ?? If the car is starting successfully only half the time and the other half of the time it doesn't even crank over, it's not your VATS it will be something to do with your starter wire or your ground to the system. If it's a problem with your VATS, the car will still attempt to start, just not turn over. Check your output on your starter wire from your remote starter and also, make sure that your ground and your power wires are secure and well connected to the igntiion wires of the car. Post your results.
