Your rear speakers are the least important in the vehicle. If the rear speakers are totally covered in fabric (usually quite thick) it will also act as an obstruction to sound getting through. I would go with the basic cheaper speakers and save the extra money for better front speakers. Either speaker will go "higher", both have tweeters, sound does not magically end in one speaker type. If one speaker is more efficient than the other, they it may play louder, a general rule is 3 db of efficiency for a noticeable difference in sound. From the looks of it they will be amplified as well, save the bread and go basic if dollars are a concern to you.

I would always go with a three way.  You get crisp high end sound, with the tweeter, instead of a wash of mid-range from the 2-ways.  4 & 5 ways are overkill, and a waste of money in my opinion.   And to contradict forbidden.......   I like to have a high quality rear speaker and usually have it faded louder in the mix.

And to start yet another pissing contest, kifdding, a pointsource speaker is usually the #1 choice of a true sq speaker, thus a 2 way or reference coax. While you may prefer to have it faded louder, that is fine, most other people listen to front stage, rear fill. I personally like to have similar speakers in the rear as the front, actually identical if possible for proper tone and timbre matching. But the fact is, the rear speakers are the least important in the system and the number of ways in a speaker do not make it sound better, crisper or less washy at all. Audition some say Pioneer 6x9 3 ways, and compare with a MB Quart or Other high end 6x9 2way and you might just be surprised.

I guess It comes down to positioning as well.  And speaker quality (like you said)  I drive a full size van.  So my rear 6X9's are most likely quit different sonically. due to placement and size.

Its all personal choice I guess.  Find what you like and go from there.

Yes, it's all personal choice, but a 3-way is much worse than a 2-way in terms of imaging and accuracy.  A 2-way is the absolute best design for a SQ setup (as Forbidden says, a point-source monitor.)  I have never heard a 3-way that is "crisper" than a 2-way... except maybe some POS Pioneer or Sony speakers, but then again those are pure kid stuff and SQ doesn't really matter in those... same as having rear deck speakers as the main source, i guess...

By the way, the Infinity REF6953I is their only 3-way system, but it is actually the same as the standard coaxial 2-way with the addition of a 1/2" "supertweeter" to increase the brilliance above 6000 Hz.  They are quite shrill to my ears.

take a look at the frequency difference between the two way and the three way, i believe that they are both the same or very similar in the case of the infinity 6x9's

If it was my choice I would probobly just buy the two way version the 9602i. I don't think you need a three way speaker in the back anyway. If you want more highs go buy some good component sets in front. That's just my opinion though, so buy what ever you like best.
