rpm sensitive relay

i am looking to make or buy a rpm sensitive relay. what i have is an 88 honda prelude with a dual stage intake. presently, the dual stage is run by vacuum at a predetermined rpm where the actuator opens and the secondary runners are functional. what i am looking for is a way to use an electronic actuator. with a tach sensitive one, that i can adjust(with a rheostat or something along that line) i can decide when i want the runners to be open or closed. is it possible to make such a controller? what will i need? i understand through the basic electronics training in electrical school, how the basic elements will work, but i don't have the ability to engineer a controller. i would assume that the controller will be low current, whereas the actuator will be a higher current, and therefore a relay will need to be put in the system to make the actuator work without burning out the rest of the controller. is anyone able to help me out? thanks for the help!

you could also check into a system that a friend of mine uses on his Grand Nash. he has electronically controlled waste gates that he can control and program to open/close at the precise moment(s) that he needs/ ruquires. i'm not sure on the exact set up he has, but i'll find out and post it back here for ya.noreplacement4displacement

sorry buddy, but i talked to my friend who has the set-up i mentioned yesterday, and he said it would be to much of a headache to try and configure the set-up to work with what you need it to perform. he informed me that the system uses a MAP sensors to feed info to the soleniods he has hooked up to control the opening/closing of the gates to control boost. he also reminded me that your system works from vacum and you would need to get a sensor that would read/convert the signal into a usable signal like that in a MAP sensor. sorry to get your hopes up, but i thought you could adapt the system to suit your application, but my friend told me it probably wouldn't properly,a nd it probably wouldn't be feesable for you to try.good luck with it.noreplacement4displacement

hondeman, if u check out the link that its_radio_shop has posted you'll see that it's pretty much the same thing as auex listed- a system that is not easily adjustable. this would kinda be a problem if u wanted to change the set-up while u're drivin', and the "pills" used with the AutoMeter system are avialable in 200 RPM increments only, i'm not sure what the MSD system is like, but i'm sure it'd be similar to AutoMeter's. if you could find an adjustable regulator to contol the amount of vacum supplied to the acuator, then maybe u could manipulate it to respond when u want. just a thought, don't know how well it'd work as it depends heavily on the availability of how many inches of vacum your engine can draw. noreplacement4displacement

the factory setup uses a vacuum diaphragm to open the gate. i was thinking a electronic system was good, do it could be adjusted. at idle, and up until the gate will normally open, the system has vacuum, and at the desired point, it loses vacuum, and the valves open, and away you go. the msd system is GREAT, but unfortunately, i would want to adjust it, maybe again, with a potentiometer, depending on what the pills are. i would assume they are just a resistor of sorts. if that were the case, then manipulating it to use a potentiometer to adjust it would be easy. then the potentiometer could be remote, mounted on the dash in a good spot, and the other stuff under hood to control a solenoid to open the gates. thanks for the help folks, this is a great place to converge with ideas.

on a side note... what causes a shift light to light? what causes a aftermarket tach to have a big light blink at a certain rpm? these might be an easier route, maybe not.... i don't know.
