I'm sure this is a beat to death topic, but I need a comparison. I currently have 2 12" RF punch HE's getting around 140w RMS. I'm trying to shoehorn these subs into a new box under the back seat of my ext cab superduty. It's seeming a lot easier to put 2 10" subs back there. Now I know 12's will go lower, and 10's usually are more responsive "tighter". But how would those subs above (what I'm guessing is a low end sub) compare to a mid level 10" sub? I like low notes, but I like it tight too, and I don't see why 2 good 10's won't do what the 12's I have now do.
Also, I was planning on firing the 12's up, but I might be able to get the 10's to fire forward instead (or up, how ever I decide to make the box). I read in a previous post that up (or down) firing can be harder on subs, but is it something to be worried about with a decent sub?
Also, the amp I have will put out around 300w X 2 RMS, so I could get some subs that'll handle a fair bit more power than the old ones, this would have to help them beat out the old 12's right?
Final thing, any sub reccomendations (feel free to keep this somewhat low budget). Alpine type-R's? Or other suggested mid level subs that'll take 300 watts rms?
Thanks again ladies and gents, I promice one day I'll get this system together10's compared to 12's -- posted image.

Try two JL Audio 10" W3v2s. They handle 300 watts RMS and cost about as much as the Type Rs.

the Kappas are i believe 400 RMS, but you could also try giving more power to those HE's, they can take at least 200 rms, thats what my 10 does anyway.  however, i AM getting 2 Kappa Perfect 10's as my next subs.  they may be a little deeper than most 10's though, as i think they have a much larger magnet structure...

I've heard of a lot of quality control issues with the Kappa perfects, like the surround getting screwed up. I would say go with the JL's like custom suggested.

Thanks fellas, I think I will go with some 10's. Might find a way to put the 12's in my g/f's Expidition, could make a few brownie points doing that lol.

infinity kappa perfect 12.1s take 350 watts rms and the 2 10" pefects would be an awesome fit for your car, you can get 2 for about $260 at crutchfield.com
