Hello forum.
Well it comes a time when you also need to ask and not only reply to other posts.
So here it is my problem , thanx Good , first of this type ....
One of my customers has a strange problem with a Valet 554R.It started today morning.
The range of the remote became like 10-20m from the car.
If he is more far away from the car the alarm will not even react.
Some times the system will process the arm / disarm command but no response on the remote.
I have tried to re route the antenna wire and re add the remotes to the system.
Same problem.
Nothing was changed in the car from the day of the installation until today morning.
And I have noticed one more thing. In the workshop the distance will improove. I drove with the customer at his house , he parked the car and then we went inside the house. Tried to arm the system ... nothing ... tried again , the system armed but no response on the remote. even with the window wide open and with the car at 20m no response on the remote.
Any idea before I change antenna and antenna wire ? (This haven't tried yet)

check your system ground...most poor range issues i deal with are a poor ground that has developed...may have been ok a week ago and not now, verify it with a meter...

Will check it , thanx.
But what is strange is that on another location the range improoves and the remote will comunicate with the system.... at his house where it worked PERFECT until today , almost no range...

I have had this happen to one of my alarm's (viper 500 esp). What I had found was that there was a bad solder that was on the ant section of the alarm. Just resoldered the joint and all was well.

Well well well ...... ok guys , Long discussed range problem on 554T/554R - Last Post -- posted image. before you tell the guy to move the antenna , to move the wire , check the ground , change antenna , change antenna wire , buy new remote buy new antenna and other expensive stuff .. I would suggest you to BE POLITE !!
What do I mean ?? Be polite with the man , ask how are the kids , the familly and ask the guy HOW IS THE WEATHER ????
If the weather is bad and stormy tell him to go to sleep and test the system next day when the storm is gone Long discussed range problem on 554T/554R - Last Post -- posted image. Long discussed range problem on 554T/554R - Last Post -- posted image.
YES .. the damn storm was the thing that reduced the range so much , could not belive but it is true.
Client called this morning and told me every thing works fine ... and the sun is shiny :)
So before you rpopose to the guy EXPENSIVE sollutions .. be polite :)
Thank you all for the support , I will make a little guide about wiring the antennas :)

be polite??????   this is a forum for time pressed installers to gain info for problems they are having usually at that particular moment...... if i had the time to leisurely sit here and ask you about the weather and your kids, whether little anna is walking yet, while i sip my coffee then i figure i would have way too much free time on my hands..... i assumed, like i'm sure the others did that offered you FREE advice, that you had eliminated the obvious and were here seeking help from experienced installers.....unfortunately I ( i cant speak for anyone else) am not a meteorologist

just thought i was helping... sorry,     i hadnt factored in the ENORMOUS cost attached to suggesting you grab a meter and check your ground....

Hey Kgerry ... I think you lost your sense of humour.
I said "Will check it , thanx." ... I took your advice and checked the ground and it is OK , and I also said thank you.
Today in the morning everything worked perfectly and because yesterday the only different thing from topday was the BAD STORMY WEATHER I presume that was the weather or the electricity in the air that disturbed the range...
So thereofre before you go and change wires and antennas I suggested it is a good ideea to ask the customer about the weather in his region ... 20Km from the place where he lives to our workshop can do a difference.
So if you lost your sense of humour I am sorry but I didn't lost mine... as I can see that the good mood of some people affectes the bad mood of others...
As you can see there was also the answer to the problem in my comment , so maybe others will find it useful. No need to quote me but the tip might be useful to others.
Read between the lines and find the essence.
