I drive a full size econoline van. I'm debating on whether or not to install my screen in the front cab. The back of the van is used for work etc. so its not really carrying passengers or anything. I have a flip style monitor which I really want to install in the front so i can view it from the front two buckets.

Has anyone gotten a ticket or anything like that. How are the Po Po when they pull you over etc.

I live in Ontario Canada. Canadian Law states that you can't have a screen visable from the driver (rear of front seats or back)

should I do it?

I would say safer not to as it might distract you while driving and its for your own safety. Also a few people have gotten pulled over for video. better safe than not.

Ya thats what I'm thinking.

Does anyone know what kind of ticket your recieve for something like this? Would it be the same as say...... having a tail light out? IE. needs to be fixed and you get some kind of fine. I don't think its anything like a court apperance. I read a post from an american and he had to make a court apperance. I'm looking toward Canadians here for help.

Thanks for the input guys. The main reason I want to install in the front is that (as I mentioned before) I don't have rear seats in my van. Isn't it perfectly legal to have one mounted in the front as long as the car isn't moving when I use it? I'm thinking about camping and when I have down time from work. Van turns on I turn off the monitor. This is Legal right? Say if I get pulled over for speeding and an cop looks in and saw my video unit (turned off) I can't get in trouble for that right?

I know cops trip out when they see my laptop on. SBC techs have theirs on too. Just as long as I keep my eyes on the road most of the time. If you had the unit open, and turned off-they shouldn't trip.

If you use it for navigation purposes its fine. But when they see you up there watching ESPN highlights..they may have a problem with that.

If you want to keep your ass covered, put in a back up camera and say that you have it for saftey reasons. You have a full size van and saying that is for a backup camera would be totally believable. I have a Swift with a massive sub box in the back and because of the nature of my install I put in a screen and a backup camera that I can turn on whenever I want so I can use it as a rear view mirror. I have been pulled over a coupe times because the police saw the glow and every time it wasnt a problem. For what its worth I believe the fin is 70 dollars but I cant remember for sure.

Here in New York I just payed a $85 fine for having navigation on my screen(Alpine iva-d900 and alpine 852 nav) in my 94 Mustang.The judge said it didn't come in my car originally(Don't know how he knew that)that's why it's illegal.
