Sorry for such a simple question, but I'm new at this...What does a power antenna lead do? Is it a wire that sends 12 volts just long enough to raise the antenna or does it send power the entire time the head unit is on? Or is it something else entirely?

it sends a signal to the power antenna (12 volt) which moves the antenna up when the radio is on, and then sends no signal to the antenna when the radio is turned off or switched to a different source for example cd or cassete.

Couldn't you also use that as a remote wire for your amp?

anctually no because the power antenna wire sends no signal when you are playing a cd. it will only work when you are listening to the radio since thats the only time you would need the antenna to be up!

when you listen to a cd, your cars antenna usually goes down since the antenna wire doesn't send a signal.

Thanks. So if the radio is on it should be putting out a constant 12 volts that I can check with a voltage tester -- right?
