I have installed a Punch 601s to my Audio pipe subs. The subs are DVC-4 ohms and wired to that config and Bridged to my amp. My amp tends to get a little warm after about thirty minutes of continuos hard play. I don't want to wire my subs to 8 ohm because I will loose power, so I thought about installing a Cooling fan. Where/how would be a good place to install one? On, or in the amp?

Install it to where it will be blowing over the amp to get the heat away

Will it keep it cool if it's just blowing on the amp's case?

make sure it is pushing or pulling or pushing and pulling across the heat sinks...not just anywhere...

That's what I thought. If it is installed to blow in one side of the amp and blow out the other side, that should be effecient enough, right?

Yes it should be. I installed a fan onto my plexi Glass shield in the cubby hole of my Ford Explorer and I found it works more efficiently if the hot air is being sucked away from the amp. But that's in a sealed-like enclorsure of the amp. Just to clarify on wiring... the 601 is a mono amp that works most efficiently at 2 ohms. If you have those subs down to one ohm, which I'm guessing you are cuz a mono amp shouldn't heat up that fast if the subs are run down to 2 ohms then in the long run you could possibly blow the amp. A 2 channel amp that bridges to 4 ohms would work better for your setup of 2 DVC subs plus there wouldn't be as much distortion and the amp would run very efficiently without any heat problems. Hope that helps...

The Punch 601s is a 2 channel amp that is 600 W X 1 @ 4 Ohms Bridged RMS. At least according to Rockford that is what I am running my amp at. I have my subs wired at a 4 ohm load and bridged to the amp. When I crank it for about 20 minutes it gets pretty dang warm. Installing those fans should help it run cooler. I hope.

Punch amps tend to run hot, by the way, so there may be nothing wrong at all. But yes, if you want to add a fan it will certainly help. As said earlier direct the air flow so it goes across the heat sinks of the amp. Be sure to locate the fan and the fan's power cord away from any audio signal wires as it can add significant noise otherwise.

My Old punch use to get steaming hot, a drop of water would sizzle on it! seriously, and that was with about 10 to 15 minutes of play, but it still ran good, lol not the best care for an amp but I was planning on selling it anyway, why don't amps come with mini fans on the inside like computers??? easy and cheap to make and install! only use a few watts

I installed the fans last night on the power side of the amp, and they seem to be running & working great. I cranked my system last night for about thirty hard minutes and those two fans kept it cool enough to keep me from worring.

Fans should come in every amp no matter what brand it is. One single addition like that will help the entire system more than you would think.
