I am switching 3 amps with the head remote wire (with a relay in-between).

Since the amps are power-wired constant-hot, I want to be sure they are completely off when not in use.

How does the rem wire work?

Worst case scenario: You shut off the engine and key-off from the ignition switch. Will that turn off the sys, do you have to actually turn off the head to turn off the amps?
Or, with the engine running and all systems on, what if you detach the head faceplate. Does the rem have the logic to turn off the amps?

Thanks.

Well you can use a toggle switch for the switch. Or just jump off the wire at the amps.

If you remove the face plate, the remote wire will turn off the amps, at least on any deck I have ever delt with

The remote wire on a deck will activate the amp if the deck is turned on. Shutting the ignition off turns off the deck as does switching the deck's power button to off. Amps have an internal relay of sorts that when the remote terminal is powered, the amp will power up and begin to work. Most amps have a LED to let you know if they are on or not. Basically, if the radio is working, then the amp will be on and working. Be sure to check your deck to see if it has both a remote and a power antenna trigger. Use the remote lead to turn on the amp if it has both. The power antenna lead on most decks only works when the radio is in use as apposed to the CD player.

The remote wire sends 12 volts through the wire when your HU turns on
