I just bought a used car and I noticed it had dual radiator fans.  What I realized is that only one fan is running. At first, I didnt know why.  Then I thought maybe it was a secondary fan that doesnt turn on until the engine gets to a higher temperature.  Can anyone shed some light on the subject? I am a bit concerned.   Thanks so much.

The secondary fan sometimes will only run when the a/c is on, or sometimes when the engine temp gets above a certain point. It's nothing to worry about in any case, as long as your primary fan works and the car doesn't overheat, but usually the secondary fans on GMs work just with the a/c.

That secondary fan is for the a/c unit as soon as you kick it on the fan should start with it. Chris is correct.
