Hooked up my new MTX Thunder895 about two weeks ago. Has been playing flawlessly. So yesterday I'm cruising on the expressway and everything goes silent. Turn the HU off, I fingure it overheated. After a bit, I turn it back on, no sub. I figure the sub is blown. A little later I get another sub, just to see if the channel is ok. Nothing, just some low screeching type sounds. Then the amp starts to smoke and everyting goes out. Turn it off, wait a while then back on. LED lights up but no sound from any channel. First time I have ever killed an amp, much less, made it smoke. I'm assuming it was my fault though I can't see having done anything wrong.
Anyone have any ideas as to what may have gone wrong or similiar experiences. Needless to say I'm not too happy considering the amp didn't make it past two weeks and now I'm praying I have some type of warranty as the amp was purchased new with all documents, just don't know if the seller is authorized.
Any Ideas????

That's actually a nice amp.  What kind of load did you have on it?  If it smoked, it shorted out badly and it could indeed be a defective unit.  Take it back where you bought it!

Whoa you let the smoke out....If the amp was 2 ohm stable..it may of been defective if you were running it at two ohms.

That amp is 2-ohm stable and unless you were really over-driving it (gains way too high) or unless your voltage in your car was down around 10V, it should not have failed.  Take it back.

Yeah, it's 2ohm stable and it's the same setup that I was using a Kenwood KAC859 with. The Kenwood never let me down but I decided I wanted more low end. All I'm driving in a single 10 and mainly listen to metal and 80's stuff, and on occasion some old school hip-hop. I would figure that the sub would blow prior to the amp but that wasn't the case. Now for the kicker, I bought it from ebay. The guy has sold a ton of stuff and has better than 99% positive feedback so I'm hoping his customer service will be good. If not I might be able to dispute it with my credit card but I'm not holding my breath on either. I'll be finding out tomorrow.

I have been there to man. The same thing happen to my MTX. I was running 2 ohm bridged into one channel and my subs started making this super weird low bottoming out sound. A few minutes later, the trunk was filled with smoke. Turned out to be 3 burnt components on the main board. It was a few years old, so I did not have it fixed. I replaced it with a MTX 421d and has been running strong since then. I have had pretty good luck with buying things off of Ebay. The main thing is to be sure and contact the seller and try to resolve it insted of leaving them negative feedback. Good luck, and let us know how things go!
