2003 mitsubishi eclispe keyless entry

Hello all. I got a 2003 mitsubishi eclispe. it has auto locks on it. But I didnt get a keyfob for the car so that tells me there is no alarm. Anyhow I got two wires that go to the security system that are for unlocking and locking the doors. I found the unlock and lock wires in door and hooked them up to the system. but I cant get it to lock the doors or unlock the doors. And when i try to use the button on the door it wont unlock or lock til the car is turned on... I am cornfused here. Does anyone have any tips? do i need to bypass a alarm sytem that may be in the car and just not a keyfob for it?Toadman
