I'd use MDF, but that's mainly because I don't know anything about fiberglass!  :)  There is a fiberglass forum here on the12volt.com, have you checked it out?

I know this may be shocking for a lot of you guys but building some stupid sub enclosure for the backseat storage compartment made of fiberglass or mdf is stupid. Just layer the metal box with dynomat and put some foam in the channel that connects the two compartments and it sounds great. The box is aleady lined with noise reducer and that way you have built in ports.

I disagree completely.  What you'll end up with is a flexing, not-necessarily air tight, booming, unstable enclosure.  I've tried building enclosures out of sheet metal and they just don't work.  They resonate like mad even with dynamat and even using 60 gage stainless steel.  I even tried coating the inside with roofing tar to dampen the vibrations, and no luck.  The constant flex destroyed all enclosure parameter calculations giving very unpredictable response curves that changed over time as the enclosure flexed and bent and heated up and developed air leaks, etc etc etc.  It was a bad experiment.  There is no substitute for MDF.

First off for my project, there is NO way to fit the sub I am using into the storage compartment without cutting... just not going to happen.   As for the fiberglassing, I have not used it before, but I was thinking that with the space that I do have available to use, even after the cut and drop box that I may save a little more space being that the fiberglass' thickness would be around 1/4 less... not sure how the resonance would be in such an enclosure though =/.

I think that it is funny that I am being told that placing a sub in that compartment won't work when that is what i did and I have pics to prove it. The compartment is not like regular sheet metal since this metal is folded and bent to make it stronger. O well here is a pic for those non believers.

Fiberglass is not as hard as it looks. It's just time consuming. This box will be espcially easy since the top is all that will be showing. I can talk you through the proccess if you like?
if its jammed force it - if it breaks in the process it needed to be fixed anyway

That would be great robbie, thanks ! and btw Tipp, nobody said that it would NOT work as in its impossible to stick a sub in that enclosure, what was meant by that I believe is that A) there is NOT the correct airspace doing it that way, NOR is doing it that way going to give you a solid enclosure.  Its sort of like Putting tires that are too large on your Vehicle without installing the proper lift, they may fit, but you may not be able to steer anymore  =)

And I agree with both of you.. There is a right way to do things, the assumed correct and OK way to do things and the wrong way to do things, which of the above do you think pertains to you?
Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.
