01-04 dodge caravan horn

Has anyone tried to hook up horn output from an alarm onto 01-04 dodge caravan's,they simply dont honk on arm/disarm but only on instant trigger.Have tried using a relay but same.always end up using a siren. any suggestions.thanks....

if your alarm does not support horn arm and disarm then it will not honk when you  lock and unlock your system. You can however hook up some relays to the horn using the siren wire and then have it cut out when the horn trigger is activated"Big" Mike

The amount of time that the alarm's horn honk output for chirps isn't long enough to actually chirp the vehicles horn. This is because the vehicles horn wire goes through a computer then the relay and then to the horn. This chain will absorbe the small amount of ground that the alarm puts out. Not much you can do about it unfortunately. This is normal on newer chrysler vehicles.Certified Security Specialist

All depends on what unit your installing.. Certain ones will go through and others as mentioned just aren't long enough. Caravans are probably the worst of this problem but there are a few other oddballs you see it on. The new code alarm units have a programming option that extends the horn output time which would probably take care of it. You could also use a simple pulse timer to extend it or rig up something else.. Normally we just leave it go and haven't had anyone complain about the issue seems most people don't want lock/unlock chirps here.. Mike

As the others have said, newer Chryslers need a longer pulse. The Ultrastarter pieces my shop uses have an adjustable horn output. Even when we increase the pulse time, the horn will work a little funny. Sometimes you get a long honk, sometimes a quick beep, and sometimes nothing. I just shut off the honk and let them know thats what they get for buying a Chrysler :)
