I'm looking to spend just around $300 for a pair of 6.5" components and have been looking hard at both the Eclipse SC8362 and the Diamond S600s.  Does anyone have any opinions either way?  Has anyone heard them both?

Has anyone else found the car audio industry incredibly difficult to buy from?  The reviews on the internet are sparse and generally bad.  Good traditional stores sell a limited number of brands at a HUGE premium over prices on the internet.  The good brands won't officially sell on the internet.  Do they not want to sell or are they just trying to make me drive 2 hours to see their product?  The customer reviews are all the same for the most part:  some kid writes a review to tell the world how much his new speakers rule.  Anyway.  </rant>  sorry.  I wish there was a CNET for the car audio industry.

Eclipse and Diamond are pretty much quivalent as far as quality goes.  They do sound different, so you definately need to listen to them to decide.  Or, you could probably take a chance with either brand and not be too disapointed.

As far as internet selling, one reason many companies do not sell on the internet is because they lisense their lines to certain retailers who have proven they can maintain a certain level of quality and sales volume, and can offer service and installation that the company can approve.  It is a matter of quality control in most cases.  Beware of buying on teh internet.  If the retailer is not factory authorized, you may be buying refurbished and not know it, and/or you will not get warranty support.  If these things are not important to you, then you can't beat some of the prices that can be found as many are offered below or at wholesale.

I agree 100% about the general uselessness of reviews on the web.  That's one reason why I like this forum so much.  :)  Most of the people in here will be honest with you and their opinions are based on experience, although we still have our share of kids who only want to brag...

Beauty is in the ear of the beholder. All the brands mentioned above are great. The trick is to choose the best for the application. I too would be vary wary of the e-tailer, it is too easy to be burned these days. You get what you pay for.
Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.
