i have a 1990 gm with a vats key system and am installing a remote starter on it. code alarm told me that i could rig up a bypass module for it with a resistor (the same as that in the key's pellet) and a relay, but their fax didn't go through properly though, and this is the first time that i felt like rigging the system instead of just buying the module, so does anybody have a schematic that will work for me?

all you have to do is find the 2 wires xcoming from the steering column in the sleeve(not the yellow sleeve though)cut the sleeve and measure the resistance of your key and put the resistor on the wires.

I done the VATS bypass in my 90 firebird, just measure the resistance in your key, if your alarm came with some resistors use the one that matches your key. as for the wiring you can go to this link for the rsx 3.5 and go to page 30 for the diagram.

Hey ccaudio,
If you put a resistor in parallel on the wires it will sum the resistor pellet in the key to the added resistor thereby giving the wrong value and the key won't start the car.
Some guys simply cut the wires and place the resistor in the circuit leaving the wires from the column unconnected.
NEITHER OF THESE METHODS ARE THE CORRECT WAY TO DO VATS.
You HAVE to use a relay as shown above!
