Hello all,
Just curious about something. I've seen in a couple magazines where people have their head units in an overhead console. So I wondering, has anyone done this before? If so, got any pics? How hard is it? And how do you do it and keep the head liner from falling down from the weight on the radio?
Duane...

you brace the back of the headliner and attach it to the roof, i've done a few and i use 1/2" MDF for bracing and i speed grip it to the roof so there are no screw holes.  the make your console and attach it to the MDF. run your wiring up the A-pillars and  wallah your done.

speed grip is a type of adhesive that is very very strong and dries within 2 minutes, it very good for attaching something that you don't want to move.  we have actually tested its strength before by building a box and instead of nailing or screwing the pieces of MDF together we speedgripped it.  when we tried to break it the wood broke in the middle, none of the seams seperated at all.  it's the strongest adhesive i've ever used.  just be sure that whatever surface you plan on attaching it to is sanded with rough sandpaper so it has something to grip into.

oh yeah, be sure i you use speedgrip to wear gloves because it doesn't come off for a very long time once it dries, i still have some on me from about 2 months ago. and if it gets in any type of hair, your screwed, brake out the razor

make a fiberglass pod and attach it to the headliner,  it would take a lot of fibrglass to do the entire headliner. i helped build the current world record holder in 601-1000 and we fiberglassed the headliner from the front doors to the windshield, we're not talking about a lot of headliner here, and it took 7 1/2 gallons.  the blazer is walled off so there wasn't to much headliner left.  the blazer is on www.gatorsaudio.com, but i think the site is under construction right now, but you can still see what it looks like
