I just purchased a honda accord and the dealer offers a facotory alarm upgrade (Karr Security) that apparently just adds a shock sensor to the existing honda security solution (with LED/Valet Switch and some insurance junk for $400).  It would seem to me that I can simply purchase a compatible shock/glass sensor and install it accordingly (around $60?).

Is there anything wrong with my thinking?  Are standards in place so that the factory alarms and aftermarket sensors compatible?  Anybody that has done this or has ideas, please post.

Dont buy anything from KARR it is all junk. If you live in the SF bayarea there installers are all hacks. I wouldnt let them install in a wrecked car.

you would be better off going with a stand alone unit...you willl be able to do more with it...

Thanks for the replies.

The dealership already has these units installed in all of their inventory, if you don't want it, you ask them to remove it (which I did).  They left a wiring harness connected to the factory alarm.  I wonder whether the harness can be used with other units...

I would like to avoid a stand alone unit, preferring to just add a little 'shock intelligence'  to the factory installed solution.
