I am trying to install a cd player where the factory tape player was,  The problem im having is the standard yota wiring harness i have does not fit.  I talked to somebody who told me i had to take off the glove compartment to get to the amp, which I did but it was still not the right connection,  my question is Is there a special wiring harness for the Avalons with factory amps or am I missing something,

I did a Solara which I believe has the same audio system. I could not find a harness that would plug into the unit I had to test the wires at the amp.  Good luck!

You can

a) hardwire into the amplifier harness behind the glove box, which is time consuming and kind of a pain in the arse

b) Metra makes a harness for this car. I dont remeber the model number, but it requires your head unit to have pre-outs.  it sends the preout signal to the amplifier.    Call metra for part number      part  is not listed on thier site.

The Toyota amp integration harness is Metra part 70-8112. I've also found, at least on older amplified Toyotas, that there is a regular Toyota two plug radio harness in the area behind the radio, only it is connected to two other harnesses which go to the amp instead of the radio. You can use that hookup if you don't care about retaining the factory amp.

If you follow the factory harness down, you will see where it plugs into the standard toyota harnesses.  It's before you get to the factory amp
Do it right the first time
