i got a new alpine Head unit (9827) and wired it up correctly or so i think (yellow wire in car is connected to red wire on HU, orange in car connecected to yellow on HU then black to black), but theres no response from the HU, is there a way to test the HU to see if its defective?

Did you use the proper wiring harness adapter for your vehicle?  If the Alpine is new, it will be under warranty.
