I have a 2003 ford escape xlt.  it has the cd player and cassette in one.  I would like to change it with something aftermarket but the same size.  I was also wondering if it is pre-amplified or not.  I don't believe it is the Mach stereo because It doesnt say it.  Any help would be great.

if im not mistaken it is 1.5 din as i belive all fords are... if u have mach im pretty sure its amplified externally...if you dont want to find the amp just wire the whole harness up... and wire the REM as well to turn the amp on itll work

lActually, fords are double din.  the only problem is you will have to find a way to secure the unit to the vehicle.  Most applications for fords are snap in and there isn't any snap in adapters for double din units.    GM uses 1.5 din.  I've done it using backstrapping, but alignment is essential.

not all fords are 1.5 or 2 DIN. i've had an F150 with single din and i now have a mustang that has 3 single DIN's.  i also have a 03 sport trac but that has a 1.5 DIN. they make a lot of different dash kits that fills the space taken up by a single DIN deck.
what!?!?! you want some??

We were refering to the 2 din openings.  They are either 1 or 2 din, not 1.5.

I'm not trying to jump into a burning fire here, but I have a 00 Ford Ranger and it has same OEM unit as you have described, and I also have a buddy that has an 01 Escape, and I know 100% as a fact that it is a 1.5 din opening, I have an aftermarket kit in which they make two for my application one, the one i have, is an opening for an aftermarket HU and a .5 and REPEAT .5 din EQ, the other option is a very small pocket, unlike the 2 din kits that have a full size pocket. So to clear it up you can use an aftermarket 1.5 din kit with optional pocket or EQ slot, for your Escape.
