does anyone else own the kenwood kdc x659?  for some newer cds with copyright protection, it won't read.  it just says something like "no music data".  one example is the Janet jackson damita jo album.  i have to load it into my changer to listen to it.  it's called copy control technology. anyone else have this problem with other decks?

Haven't found that problem yet.  Try changing the cd read for 1 to 2 of the other way.

I'm not too familiar with the X659, but I think the options on X679, the deck i have, are pretty much the same, try turning the deck off and going into the menu mode, scroll until you see CD read, and try swapping it to the other, which is either 1 or 2, this post coincides with what lspker is telling you to do, but jsut instructions on how to do it, what it does is changes the way the laser reads the fomats, I don't have my manual handy and haven't ran across using this option much as to tell you in depth info, but I know that it causes the symptoms you are describing above, and sounds to be the prob.
