Remote start on Dodge Diesel ?

I'm installing a DirectStart CS324-T on a Dodge Diesel.

I'm prety sure I have all primary wires on right BUT I think my problem is with the Tach Wire connection. I get 8 flashes = Tach signal detected and 3 flashes = overcrank Protection.

Does anyone know what color code the tach wire is. I get Grey/Blk on the diagram but I think it's wrong.

On that wire I get 12v on ignition, 0 on start and 12v 1 sec after start up, with manual key start up.

What year is the dodge diesel I did an 89 about 6 months ago and had a plethora of problems,  Grey black should be the wire, but on the year that I worked on it was non existant. I searched poked and prodded the wires for almost a day and found nothing carrying ac current you might have to use the alternator.

That grey/black is not a tach it sounds like it is a accesory wire from what you explained. at tach wire will only read a small aamount of ac voltage 1-6 volts never dc you are looking for ac. whats the make/model year of this car so ican see what i have here.

It's a 1997.

I also have the Haynes manual. It shows GY/LB from the PCM to the first connection, then GY/BK after that to the instrument panel.

I have both those colors at the back of the instrument cluster and tried connecting to both with no success so far.

GY/BK gives me 12v on ign, 0 on start and 12v on eng run

GY/LB gives me .13v no key in, 5v on ign and .16v on eng run.

Do you know if the tach wire is supposed to not have any voltage at all until engine turns? I get the feeling the box is sensing a signal from this wire that should not be there until the engine turns.

I read 2 wires right at the engine speed sending unit.

Wire #1 had .28v with no variation with throtle movement,  engine on or off.

Wire #2 was the supply line with .28v dead and 5.61 v on engine run.

So Wire #1 is tach wire but it's not sending any voltage. Am I missing something here?

• The tach wire is located as gray/blue at large plug through firewall on driver's side at highest point of firewall, also gray/blue at cluster. 
• Diesel glow plug wire is a ORANGE / black(-)

You will need to re-learn the tach signal and also make sure that you have changed BANK II..FUNCTION 1...OPTION 2 to engage it for a diesel not a gasoline engine. OR you can use the brake input wire ( GREEN + input ) as your glow plug monitoring wire.

Denis- I'm having a similar problem on a 96 Dodge Ram Diesel. I tried every wire possible and couldn't program tach. We've done these before with no problem. The older trucks, from 92 back, had no tach signal- solved that by going to the alternator (inside). Please post any thing you figure out and I'll do the same- my job is coming back Monday...... Sorry I can't help.

I felt it's either my wires or a defective unit and everyone said I had the right wire.

So, I sent the unit back to manufacturer and quit on project.
