You don't use any diodes.
Using the proper wire to lock the door will also arm the factory alarm.
Sending a double pulse to the unlock wire will unlock all the doors.
Sending a single pulse to the unlock wire will disarm the alarm so you can remote start the car.
I am pretty sure that these wires are tested by twisting the key in the driver's door key cylinder.
You asked what would happen if you didn't do any of this..... well, I guess you could not hook up the lock/unlock funtions from your remote start, but then you'd have to carry two remotes with you all the time, which would be stupid.
Also, locking the car doors with the key, or with the remote, or by pressing the "power lock" button with the door open.......any of these things will arm the factory alarm, and it will sound off next time you try to remote start the car. You could, every night when you get home, just lock each door manually with your finger......but why would you want to have to do that? And then the car would be unprotected too.
