caps are debateable but i say your better of upgrading the alternator and later  down the road, battery too.  that will stop the diming make sure you get a alt. with a good amount of amp rating better than what your running now. so say you oem alt. is 100 and you have a amp that pulls 40A get some thing like 150A alt. that should cover the dimming good.

Saleen,

It may not be a power issue.  Check your gains since the system is cutting out when you turn the volume up.  This could mean that the amp is clipping and shutting down to protect your subs.

Could be a simple ground problem to. I would guess on it being either a problem with wiring or the amp itself. I doubt the amp is so starved for voltage that it is actually cutting right out. I had a mini at my store that we used as a instore demo and we had 4 10"'s 2 bd 501's, a 301x, a indash video system, A x-box, and a 17" monitor and we had to use the stock altenator because it was a dealer car. We never had a prblem with the system cutting out however latter on we did switch the whole system to using a 100 amp power supply because the car never moved and we felt sorry for the little guy.

could be wired wrong. you might have some speakers wired in a lower impedance than the amp can handle for that channel, which at low volumes wont affect it much, but when its turned up, it make the amp overheat, so it shuts off momentarily. Just my .02.
