Alright fellas, I currently have two sony xplod 10's and a sony 250wRMS@4ohm mono block amp. The amp is good, and the subs aren't bad, but I am looking for something better.
Hence the JL. I am looking to upgrade to a pair of them. I know the w3's are more expensive, but they are dual voice coil. They also require more power. So my question to yall is would my amp be able to run two of them and would it sound good with only 250 watts as opposed to the 300 they want. I would be overpowering the w0's like mad with my amp is my only fear since they only need 125 watts. Anyway, just let me know what you think. I am trying to avoid upgrading the amp. Thanks fellas.

anyone got an opinion here? I could get the old w6's also i suppose, the ones that are really shallow and not the new deep ones, were those any good?

That sony amp is over rated probobly so if it says it outputs 250 watts RMS on one channel it should be fine with the W0s. I wouldn't try to power W3s or W6s with it though.

the only other thing I could do it bridge it and wire in parallel to create a two ohm load, and then give the subs 500 watts. since it is probably over rated like you say, wouldn't that work for w3's? but doesn't running a two ohm load create more distortion?

well, if you are going for SQ, then underpowerin them w3's would work nicely. OOOOR, you could get the w3's in a ported box, and whatever the amp puts out should suffice. However, i'd suggest you go to a nice shop that will let you try both out in you car to see which you prefer. Chances are you'll take the w0's though. good luck.

I have 4 w0's hooked up on a tsunami db1100d, and they sound fabulous,

I am giving them about 250Wrms each and never had any problems

Trash the amp. It's going to fall apart in no longer than a year. Buy yourself a new amp, JBL bp600.1 and two JL audio 12" w3v2's. That  amp has better build quality, reliability, durablity, and a hell of alot better sound. Its about $220.00 at etronics.com. I think they aren't available right now although.
