Hey guys.
I'm new to this car security stuff so bear with me.
I had a Viper 791XV installed a month ago. I also had a prox sensor installed at the same time. It was working fine but then I started getting alot of falses. The car would go into full alarm for no reason. No people or other cars or objects around it. I witnessed it do this in an empty parking lot. I took it into my install place (Tweeter). The guy there reset all the sensors and also turned down the sensor a bit.
Now I can lean on the car, stand right next to it, and the prox sensor will not go off. How can I adjust this myself??? Is there a probable place that the prox sensor is installed???
I know where the "brain" is and I do see a clear box that will light up red when I touch it. I assume this is the dual stage shock sensor and not the prox.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks DEI 508D Prox sensor help - Last Post -- posted image.

Ok, here is the problem. First, it will not go off if you lean on the car, hell the shock senor won't even go off if you lean on the car. Second, it is not supposed to go off if you stand near the car or even walk by it. IT IS supposed to go off when you reach into the car. If you turn the radar up then you will have falsing again. These sensors are sometimes hard to set up and require alot of time to adjust. If you want to adjust it then be my guest, but when you can't get it set then expect to pay to have it readjusted. Also as far as location, the best place it should be as close to the center of the car as possible, so you should start looking there.

When I bought the alarm I was told that the prox sensor would go off when someone got to close. That's why I bought it. That's the way it was working before it started falsing. Should I have got a different sensor??

It should not go off, when somebody is walking near the car.     It should only go off, when somebody reaches into the car.   If a person is standing a few inches outside of your car, he is allowed to do so.   But if he reaches inside the car, then he is in a violation, because the car is then your property, and then it should go off.

I think what the shop meant was, that if sombody is within a few inches of your car, then the 508D should give a warning to the alarm which then reacts by beeping (but not going off).    That is why the 508D has a dual zone.   Outer zone is only for warn-away, en inner zone is for full alarm.
