I have a 2003 SVT Focus with factory sub and in dash 6 disc.  I would like to retain the factory steering wheel control and head unit, but want to replace the sub with custom enclosure in the trunk.  I don't want to use line converters.  Any tips?

Are you putting in a) an aftermarket amp for that sub, or b) just replacing the factory sub?           a) use a high quality line output converter   b) replace sub at existing wiring.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

She needs more power captain...  Factory sub is damn good for factory but not good enough for me.  I've got over 4 grand in the basement from my old car waiting to go into something, but the factory head unit and controls are great.  I would like to use a new amp and sub, the unit in the trunk is one piece, amp and sub, and easily comes out, I just:

1) haven't explored to see what type of  connectors it uses, even though I know that Ford just can't make it easy on me, that's too nice

2) I've used line converters in the past and something always has gone wrong.  If someone knows of a really good quality set I'd try them, but I want results.

thanks for the info

Use this Navone converter and all will be well.  I used one for my sub amp in my Ford.  Best results using these is to place the LOC close to the amp with short RCA's.  Feed the LOC with twisted cable from the left/right wires before any amps.

Just unhook the wires from the factory sub and tape them off.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

I'll try anything once, it claims to be exactly what I'm looking for.  I've tried stuff before that was more expensive and ended up being junk...  We'll see I guess.  Thanks for the info.

You could also use a good outboard crossover - line driver - sub level controller - LOC all in one device like the Crossfire CX2L + CFR1. This is probably the route that I would take in your vehicle.

Hey there,
I just stumbled on this thread. I just converted my 2004 SVTF w/ 9006 audiophile system to a Kenwood MP3/WMA H/U while maintaining my sub AND steering controls. Read how here: http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=190259#post190259
