i am looking for a small sub. as in 10, 8 or even smaller if available. i like tight bass, not necessarily loud and boomy. will be using only one but have very little space. also what amp would you recomend to power it? space for the amp is no problem. will look into any options. thanks

Polk momo mm104 is a good sub for small enclousers. Sealed space is .66cuft. I have two 10" in a box which has .7cuft per speaker And it sounds pretty damn good. and as you said it is not to boomy but it still hits hard. They handle 500 watts rms.

cost, not so much, but will want to keep a boundary on it since it is only a small sub and amp. will look at whatever you throw at me. anyone heard the kicker RMB8, they are a midbass but havent heard em. thanks

Here's a combination I wouldn't mind having. This Diamond subwoofer for $100, with this small JBL mono amp, for $170. Note that the DVC sub will go to a 2 ohm load, and the JBL will give it 300 watts. The Diamond will handle 500 watts, but will still be sweet at 300. It can go into a sealed enclosure of .5 ft3; this is the spec sheet.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Image Dynamics IDQ v.2 series of subwoofers was built to play in small boxes. I had the same requirements when I was looking for a sub a few weeks ago. Built a .50ft^3 box for the 10" IDQ and couldn't be happier. They even recommend down to .30ft^3 for the 10" ! Small amps work w/ this sub too. I'm powering it w/ a 200 w rms xtant. Recommended RMS on the sub is 250.

I hate loud and boomy. The IDQ is deep and tight. Like I said, couldn't be happier for a $150 sub in a small box.

The Phase Linear Aliantes are considered superb SQ subs and are very thin. There is no longer a US site, but TheAutophile handles them. $$$$

These are new to US, but I haven't been able to get the US rep to answer his phone. What little info there is on the website looks interesting. Very thin mounting depth: Firenze 8", 1.85" 200W RMS; Firenze 10", 2.4" 250W RMS. I would assume that they are $$$$.

Then we come down to the real world where I have to second the Image Dynamics recommendation. Although I would suggest the new ID v.3. ,ID's SQ sub. The IDQ is also SQ but adds some SPL into the equation. The ID 8 can work in a ridiculously small .2 cuft box but you lose some low end.

I have to agree with kfr, and cdjrImage Dynamics is a great speaker with a great sound.. Their IDQ series plays wonderfully in a small enclosure, I think that you would be exceptionally happy with one of them =)
