Im wondering if I can hook up 2 decks to my honda civic ex 2000. I got the OEM Deck and I got a JVC deck with aftermarket harness on it already. I figured i can take the wires and split the main wires into 2 so i can power the OEM and my JVC, is that possible? The reason behind this is that the OEM has the anti theft devise on the deck, and I want the JVC to play Mp3 CDs. There seems to be enough room for both to fit but I'll have to make sure. Anyway, thanks for your help in advance.

Can you, yes. But why? Just to keep a stupid blinking light?

I think what he means is that the keyless entry system or the alarm for this car is built in to the head-unit. At least that's what I have heard.

Nope, it is 96-98 that have the keyless entry built into the radio.

You will need to switch the deck power or ground. You will have to turn off 1 deck for the other to work. I found it best to wire a toggle switch into the ground side to switch decks without issues.
I like to ground switch. In my buisness you see just what happens when you power switch. Ford loves to do that and eat up fan switches and headlight switches.

hey sandt38, I think You understand what Im trying to do, but what do you mean by switching the power or ground? I didn't know you can only run one deck at a time, but i'll figure out how to toggle into the ground wire to switch decks. Im just gonna connect the original plug into the OEM deck which has the alarm on it not the power locks. Then strip the original plug and wire it with the matching wires from the JVC deck. Hopefully this works. The only thing that I have to look into is spliting the ground wires and get a new connection to plug into the JVC and the original ground into the OEM.

Use a 3 terminal rocker or toggle switch. On 1 in, run ground, on each of the others run the ground out to each deck. This will allow you to switch the unwanted deck off entirely while the other is running. As long as you are careful, you can avoid adding the in-line toggle, but if someone else gets in your car, you never know... you know?

Just curious, why are you keeping your oem deck also?

He believes factory security runs through the radio. The only security that the radio has is to flash a light and have a code to turn back on after being powered down. This is why I understood he wants the factory radio.

if you want to keep your oem functional also, so that you can listen to both, then please take the time to make a proper switching system. the reason is that you can end up frying one or both of them if the speaker outputs are just simply split between the 2 of them. there should be 8 speaker wires coming from the back of each deck and each of them need to be isolated using a 5 wire (reverse polarity) setup using a spdt relay for each of the 8 wires. or, to save on space and the cost of relays, use 2 of these:

it's a bit tedious, but definately the only way to go if you have to have both of the decks functioning.
good luck!
