Hello,

We all know that with RF modulation, sound quality suffers.  I want to retain my late-model OEM head unit and add a MP3 changer (CHA-634).  I can use an interface/converter and the sound quality will be good but the head unti will address all of the MP3 tracks (in folder) as linear tracks.  So, if I have 200 files, I would have to step though a lot to find my music (I'm told that the stepping has latency also and it is not cached).

I can use the Alpine CRA-1667RF.  It can recognize and control folders.  But, it is RF modulation.

Does anyone know if there is a way to modify the CRA-1667 to "tap" the audio out, prior to the RF section, so that it can be used as line out (perhaps with a line driver)?  This way, I can use the Alpine controller to navigate folders and files, and have line-out into the factory through an auxiliary converter for better sound quality.

I was thinking about buying one to see if I can tap into the circuit somewhere.

Thanks,

JAMES.

No idea how to accomplish what you describe.  But why not simply use an MP3 player with a line output?

Good question.  I have another vehicle w/ a CHA-634.  This will allow me to chage cartridges easily.  It is also nice to be able to burn MP3s on CDs for easy exchange.

do you have a factory radio or not? if it's aftermarket with an Aux in then the CRA-1677 RF has an RCA output that will work

The CRA-1667 does not have RCA outputs.  It is an FM modulator.  It only has RCA auxiliary inputs.
