a friend of mine works for the telephone company here and he showed me something interesting in the engine compartment......in order for them to run all the lights and power tools-they use a battery charger. It's power is hooked up to the fuse block and the ground to the chassis.....my question is: Is it possible to use this for car audio without having to shell out for the ho alt? My friend said it gives an extra 100 amps to the battery and always keeps it charged. basically he gets 120 amps from the alt and 100 amps from the charger......would this be something good to try out...any help would be appreciated.thx

you say its a charger but how does it create power? Does it plugin to a wall outlet and suplement that way or does it have a connection to the pully system?  Is it a DC to AC converter to run standard home type wall plugin tools and lights. I need more info :0

it's a 12 volt battery charger........i don't know exactly how it works but the wires that hook up to the batt. per alligator terminals are cut off...pos+ is hooked to the fuse block and neg- is hooked to the chassis......there is an ac plug mounted to it and that runs to the front bumper to another ac plug....don't know how it really gets it's power....might hook up to wall outlet like u said not sure....asked a mechanic friend about something like that and he told me he had seen that in a car he once worked on...guy had six amps 4-12's and mids highs all hooked up to one batt....stock alt and battery charger....said batt never discharged or volts lowered because of the charger....just postin' to see if any one has seen this kind of thing.

The charging unit is meant only as a supplemental power supply while stationary it will not help you during normal transit.
Unless, you intend to be plugged into a AC outlet all the time, which negates the phrase mobile audio.
Just my thoughts on that.
