Subs Started Smoking! Pllease Help.

I need some help. I have a Kenwood KAC-7201 amp, bridged at 4ohms, putting out 460 watts RMS to 2x 10" Orion XTR subs, wired like this:

I am running the amp bridge obviously, and the amp is set correctly IE the gain is right were it should be. Tonight I got a THX test CD for subwoofers, threw it in there, turned it up to my max (which is fine I think for my system) and noticed a VERY fowl smell. I turned the stereo off, pulled over, and there was smoke coming out of the right hand sub, which is the one that the amp wire feeds into. Now this smell, I have smelled it before in the last 2 weeks. It wasn't as bad the other times, so I assumed that it was the outside air as it has something of a manuer smell to it. Anyway, what would cause my subs to do this? Oh, they still work, and sound fine, just this smoking thing, kinda weird. I have been running this setup the same way for over 2 months, and this is the 1st problem that I have had. Any help would be great guys.

there is no poly in there, and I haven't make any changes to the system. This happened to my buddies car just the other day, but his sub does not work any longer. I run them off the amp in mono, so it is tough to see if they are both working, as they both still move. If I fired a VC can it just kinda fry? Does it take some time for them to really die? Would both subs be affected by this? These subs are 6 years old, so I'm not worried about replacing them, and at least I have a good excuse now, I just don't want to get new ones and have the same thing happen to whatever I get for new ones ya know?

no, there were not any warning. I think since it was a THX test that this is for home stereo's, but that shouldn't have mattered right? I still has the same amount of base that they have had for the last 6 years, so I think that both still work. On the way home (after the smoking) I tried to turn it on again, raised the volume, and the smell came back. That was the last time that I turned it on. I don't get it.

Your right, I don't have access to an O-scope, wish I did. Anyway should I just not play that CD again, or is something else truly out of wack with my system. Like I said I don't mind getting new subs. What do you guys think of the Infinity Kappa 100.3dvc? They look pretty sweet to me, and fit my wallet nicley also. Any other reccomendations for a $200 pair of 10" subs?
