Static with FM mod and 12v conv

OK Heres the deal. I installed a Clarion Overhead screen and a clarion FM mod into a 94 Caravan. The customer is using an x-box for source. When I plug the X-box into an extension cord the system works great even with the car running. When I plug the x-box into the cigarrette lighter I get background static with the car running and when its not. I have tried a couple different inverters and they all do the same hing. The converters are being pluged into the ciggarrette lighter because the customer doesnt want one hard wired in. The want the whole thing removable except for the over head screen. Now I am guessing that the FM is ok. I was kinda leaning towards mabye the ground on the cigerette lighter but like I said its static, not engine noise and it only happens when its running off the converter, not the wall. It is the converter itself, it produces ac current causing the whine. You could try grounding the shielding on the rca cables for the audio. Also run the audio/video cable as far away from the inverter as possible.Certified Security Specialist

Always check info with a digital multimeter.
