Can I have a laptop in my car with the screen attached by a cable and placed on the dash? What sort of cable would be needed, can vga cable be used? This would mean the install would be quite neat and functional as an entire laptop on the dash doesnt really work too well. If this is possible Im sure its been done.

Dont worry about that, the question is can it be done? (I said that as an example of the situation)

Are you planing to use the screen that came with the laptop, or a differt one. Say if not going to use a differt one the heat form the laptop also come "from" the keyboard, if you kept the key board closed may over heat. Im sure it can be done, just have to put soem though into it.

No I would be using the laptop screen, just wondering if I can remove it and have it hooked up remotely via a cable?

Find a local computer/repair shop and ask them, that be your best bet. Or find a old laptop that dont work for crap and take that apart to see how it wired, that give you more of an idea of what to look for. My guess it was soem sort of ribion cable, im sure that it can be made longer. Let us know what happens im courius now.

Yes you can detach and use the screen, but it will not work without the laptop. Is that all you wanted to know?
