i've got an old avistart alarm/remote start that i was trying to use on my motorcycle. i lost the remote start module but the car alarm/keyless entry module is all there. the problem i've having is when the alarm is turned off for about 30-45 seconds it automaticly arms itself. so far all i have wired in is the movement sensor, antenna, siren and the 12V + & - leads to the main "brain" piece....is there some other wire i need to hook up or is there just a setting i need to somehow change???

the system is the avistart 6500 from avital...

i was reading in the manual about active and passive arming...i'm not too familiar with these terms...is this something that would cause whats happening?

That is exactly what you need. You will need to change it to active arming, meaning you have to push the button to arm.

ok...it says in the manual that i need to: 1) turn the ignition key to the on position and then 2) begin flickering the valet switch on and off....then i go through the rest of the steps counting how many chips the siren does, stop when i reach the desired number to change the setting i want to change....

all i've got connected are the movement sensor, antenna, siren and the 12V + & - leads to the main "brain" piece....i just tried connecting the "ignition switched +12V input" wire to my power wire to try to trick the system into thinking my ignition was on but i'm still not getting any chirps when i do the flick routine. can you guys think of any other wires i may need to connect??? and does anyone happen to know if the system is going to reset back to the default setting every time its disconnected from the battery?
