Dear Car Audio experts,

I just installed my car stereo and amplifier to my classic volkswagen beetle. The sound looks good if the car's engine is not running. But there is a hissing and cracking noise when the engine started and becomes louder if i rev it.

Need your help, please.

Thanks a lot,

einreb

where are you getting your power from? try running a new power wire from the battery and run a new ground.
yup

Thanks for the reply.

The power is  directly connected to the battery as well as the ground.

did you run your rca cables next to your power cable? that could cause the engine noise.

No, the rca cables run in the other side of the car.

run your ground to the vehicle chassis. make sure to keep the ground from your amp to the chassis as short as possible. be sure to scrape off any paint around the hole. connect the ground to the chassis, turn your stereo on and see what happens.
do you have any crossovers? disconnect those and just try to hook it up straight to the amps. and see what happens

Do you have resistor spark plugs on you VW. If not try that. If I remember correctly the older model cars also had a resistor for the condensor. I don't know if yours has points & condensor or if its been converted to an electronic ignition.

check and see if your spark plugs have RFI suppression sometimes is written right on the plug otherwise try buying some that have RFI suppression. you wouldnt install a resisitor on a sparkplug wire because the ignition coil is throwing out alot of volts to fire the sparkplug.
