Kole Audio has a pretty nice low price shallow mount sub.  Model #'s MFW-10, and MFW-12.  These subs are only about 3" deep and sound pretty dang good for the money.

The MFW Series of subwoofers are designed especially for those who want big sound in a little space. The flat, compact construction of the MFW's means less volume displacement by the speaker itself, allowing these speakers to operate in spaces as small as 1.0 cubic feet, with a flat response down to around 35 Hz, and delivering tremendous punch from a sealed enclosure. It doesn't get any better than this.
Common Features:
• Cast Aluminum Flat Basket
• Titanium/Aluminum Cone
• Large Roll Treated Foam Surround
• Single 4-Ohm ASV Voice Coil
• Woven Flat Tinsel Lead

• Dual Black Poly/Cotton Spider

• 1-Piece Rubber Gasket
• Chrome Spring Load Terminals
• Diamond Cut Basket
• XL Chrome Front & Back Plates
