i'm installing prestige APS-996A  on my friends 94 del sol and everything works except for the remote start

it says it needs to be programmed

i followed the instructions

1) turn key to on

2)press valet 3 times

3) immediatly turn key off

4)press and hold valet and turn key on

5) parking lights will flash when tach is learned

however. after pressing the valet 3 times and then turn the key off the alarm sounds. any ideas?

You must start the car with the key in order for it to learn the tach! Read the instructions again, it is quite easy.

so i need to start the car

push the button 3 times

turn the key off

press and hold the switch , while doing this start the car.

i understand that however, as soon as i turn of the car the alarm is triggering it is exiting programing mode.

no you have to turn the ignition on then off first( without starting it)
push the button 3 times
then hold the button down after the 3rd time and start the car
make sure you hold the button down while you start
the lights shouls start blinking indicating that it is in program mode...
