Thats strange, my Makita I use about the same as my Dewalt, and the battery lasts about the same in both of them. Maybe you had a bad battery????

I know i am a little late on my post but did you look @ the Dewalt DW966K-2  I have one of these and just love it. It's 14.4v and has 210in-lbs of torque. Very strong drill I have had no problems with it. And it fells comfortable when it’s in your hand, I Paid about 200.00 for it I would highly recommend this drill to anybody.

I have used my Makita drill for about 8 yrs and it's still running great.  It is light enough to be handling upside down under a car or dashboard without getting too heavy or cumbersome.  One thing I don't like is the circuit breaker, it seems to trip alot.
