music mute wire

Trying to install a handsfree kit for my cell phone (Sony-Ericsson HCB-30).  I have a 2001 Nissan Quest GLE with the built in VCR system.  I believe I have everything else hooked up correctly except I need to "Connect the yellow music mute wire to the car stereo".  I have looked at the back of the radio and there are 3 connectors plugged into the back of it with several multicolored wires in each.  Does anyone know where I should splice this yellow wire?

There is a button on the front of the radio that has a picture of a phone with the word "mute" under it so I'm fairly certain the radio has this capability.  I just have no idea where I should connect this yellow wire.  Please help?

are you talking about using your stock radio or is it aftermarket? if aftermarket which brand and model is it? thanks

I am referring to the stock radio/tape/CD changer/VHS system for a 2001 Nissan Quest GLE.

If there is a wire on the radio I can splice into, that would be great.  If not, I'm not sure what I should do with the yellow wire from the car kit.  Can it just be left unattached or does it need to be attached to something to complete some circuit.  As of right now (with the wire just lying there) the car kit is not functioning properly.

Any advice would be appreciated.  I'm about to call Sony support and contact the guy on eBay that sold it to me.  It may be a DOA unit.

From what I can find it seems like there is no stock mute wire, the only other way Ive heard of doing this was wiring up a relay from your output wire (mute) of the handsfree kit, to interrupt the acc lead into your deck, this would shut off your deck every time but it would start right back up when the call ended, and it seems like the best way of doing it, there have been a few topics on this but Ill try to post them for you.

Hope this helps, make sure you figured out if its a positive or a negative signal coming from the handsfree kit, post back if you need any help with a relay diagram or anything.

I appreciate the help.  I'm not sure how to do what you are describing but it doesn't sound too terribly technical.

Still a little confused as to why the radio has a phone mute button on the front but no way to access the function from the back.

No, you do not have to hook up that wire to complete any circuit.
