I want to put two 12" type R's in my friends suburban. Which of these amps would be the best, for the least amount of money? If you know of any other amps in this price and continuous power range (the rated power can be at 4 or 2 ohms because I can get either version of the subs) I'd like to hear about them. Thanks

i got the alpine mrd-500 and i love it. great sound tuning and i like the voltage and temp readout. its a really clean look cause it hides the wires. i think its 900 peak at 2 ohms. dont quote me though.

Those are good amps you listed, ,not quite shure about lightning audio tho, , but there not gona slam the 12's to there full potential if there going in a sealed box.  You may want too look into something in the 800-1000 rms range.

not a bad amp, but i would get something with alot more power. the r types are 300 rms. in either 2 or 4 ohm dual coils. i'd get the dual 4 ohms and an amp with at least 600 watts rms at 2 ohms.

If you can find a JBL 600.1, buy it. They where being sold on sounddomain untill recently, now they are no longer on there. A serch of the web, or, at last resort ebay may turn one up.

How well would an MRD-M501 power two 12" Type Rs in a sealed box? If I used a MTX 801D instead would it be alot louder?

the 501 wouldnt be good at all. but the mrd-500 would work perfectly. if you got at least 12.5 volts it will push just what you need. the r types will take about 300 watts rms and the amp pushes 400 rms per channel at with a 2 ohm load at 12.5 volts. i got mine pushing a pair of e type 12's and its more than enough for those.

oh forgot to put something about the mtx amp. it almost pushes the same as the mrd501 but doesnt have the extensive tuning capabilities or the volt and temp meter.
