Aftermarket power door lock (with picture!)

Hi guys,

I am trying to get the actuator to work properly, but I am having some problems.

Here is a picture of my setup, i know its ugly and not very clear, but I hope it is just something really obvious that I am missing:

When the fuse is not in, and I touch the wires labeled 86 or 85 to the +12volt, i hear the corresponding relay click.  But, when i try to put the fuse in sparks fly everywhere and it burns out the fuse.  Of course, without the fuse, the actuators dont do anything.

The actuators work fine, because when i hook one wire up to the neg terminal of the battery and touch the other to the pos. it moves up or down (depending on configuration).  Note that the relay's are upside-down in this picture when compared to the wiring diagram on this site.

85 & 86 require a (-) input in order for the relays to work. Try this and make sure that your alarm or keyless entry is set to output (-) not (+).

What kind of relays are those? If they are not SPDT relays but of some other design then that would be your problem. I notice that the tab is not on the side which should be terminal #30. I have a feeling that what should be terminal 87A and 87, might be internally connected  together.

Im actually not using a keyless entry or alarm system...  I just want to have a button on my door which will let me lock and unlock the front two doors...

These are SPDT relays.  Like I said, they are upside down in the picture.

The issue is this:  Even when pins 85 and 86 arent hooked up to - or +, i cannot put the fuse in.  It will blow as soon as i put it in.

Do pins 85 and 86 labeled as needing to be hooked up to "alarm (-) " on https://www.the12volt.com/doorlocks/page3.asp#arp need to be hooked up to something before i can put in the fuse?

if you intend to use these relays thats your choice it will work I think you need to check the bottom of the relays and attach accordingly

terminal 30 of the realys should go to the actuator one relay to each actuator wire, then you should hook both 87a's to ground then hook 87's and 86's to 12volts ....then use a negative to trigger the unlock relay at term.85  and neg to trigger term 85 at the lock relay ...if that doesnt work then try new relays ....
