ok im just starting to learn how relays work and was wondering if any of you guys know of any helpful web sites or tricks of the trade to help me out. i basically want to learn how a relay works and how i go about wiring one up. i got a co-worker trying to teach me how they work but cant seem to grasp the idea of how they work in my head.

Look left, see the very top section called "Basics", click on the word "Relays" and you will be taken away to the magical world of relays. If you look through this forum for a topic dealing with a "relay book", that would help you out as well.

try this ... pop the top off of the relay.. have a 12volt supply handy  put 12vt to terminal 85, ground to 86 and watch what happens this has helped many  newer installer understand how they work.
