04 explorer alarm/keyless

i put a rattler alarm and keyless entry in my friends 2004 explorer, eddie bauer edition.  everything works fine but i remember him telling me that sometimes when he starts his vehicle, after its started the starter would still crank for a second or two.  he thought i messed it up when i did the alarm but i did not install the starter kill on his truck.  so he just called today saying he took it to the dealer to get it looked at and they said the problem was cause of the alarm.  i did not touch the starter wire, did not install the starter kill so im wondering if the guys at Ford just blamed it on the aftermarket alarm because they use that as an excuse not to work on the vehicle?  what do you guys think?  i dont see how that alarm would cause the starter to keep cranking even if i did install the starter kill, but i didnt so it sounds like the mechanic just didnt wanna work on the vehicle.  well hes kinda mad at me and i need to fix it cause he paid me and i gotta take care of him as a customer.  has anyone ever heard of an alarm causing this problem??  please let me know.  thanks

weird!!! i installed a 790xv on my friend's 02 f150 and he has something rattling over the passenger side(airbag area) while he drives, he take it to the dealer and the technician said it was the alarm...... lol so, you judge the situation. FixOrRepairDaily!!!!! Houston,TX

yea sounds like the dealer is just blaming it on the alarm to use it as an excuse to not do his job, probably cause he has no idea what the problem is! haha  anyone else got possible ideas?

i think you prolly have to explain it to the technician. tell him that theres nothing that the alarm can be affiliate w/ the starter.Houston,TX

The dealer is full of sh*t, again. If you didn't touch the starter wire, and even if you did, there is nothing the alarm would/could do to keep the starter engaged for any amount of time. Go there and pull the fuse to the alarm and when it still does it tell them to f off. I hate dealers.

Just double check your wiring under the dash to ensure that there is no solder spikes poking into any wires in the ignition harness and then disconnect the fuse for the alarm system for a few days and see if the problem persists. If nothing is evident and you place the fuse back into the alarm and the problem comes back again, chances are there's a short somewhere. The Ford will have 3 years warranty on it so you can take your time trying to find the problem, but I would exhaust all possibilities and make sure that you have double checked all your wires so that the dealer can't say that it was your fault.Jeff

hey jeff, theres no solder spikes anywhere cause i dont use solder! haha   i just used butt connectors.  but you said to take the fuse out for a few days, thats a good idea...but you said if the problem comes back then theres a short somewhere..do you mean a short that is because of the alarm i installed or a short that is Fords problem to fix and not mine?
