I have a JL 10 ran by an alpine mrv-F340.  The amp and my head unit have LP crossover and both the one on the head unit and the one on the amp are set at 80hz LP but i can still hear the music, like the singing and the guitars and stuff from the sub.  Whats the deal.  Also what does clipping sound like?

If you can hear high frequencies from your sub (are you sure it's coming from the sub?) then your LP filter is either not setup correctly or is defective.  By the way, you only need to activate one of them.  Clipping in subs sounds like a thud or muddy noise instead of a musical note.

about the clipping, the pre outs on my HU are 4v and the sub is a 125 watt rms @ 4 ohms, the amp is 130 x 1 bridged at 4 Ohms.  The gain is set on nominal but the next setting to the right is .5v. what is that?  I used the equation and it came out to be like 23 volts or somethin but i dont know where on the dial that would be.
