Hello. I'm having trouble with 791XV remote start on 1989 Ford Thunderbird. It will crank but only for a moment. With key, car starts fine. All other alarm functions work fine too. However, when I try to remote start the car, starter just cranks for a moment and stops.

I did follow trouble shooting guide, but I don't think it helped.

Please help me out. Thanks!

Use the valet switch and go see why it is shutting down. Then post your results.

Thanks for your reply. According to shut down diagnostic, LED flashes twice which means Over Rev... But engine shuts down before it even starts.... I'm sure I got the right wire for the tach output... help!

The tach wire should be a GREEN/ YELLOW wire at the coil. I hope this helps.

Relearn the tach, that is if you are sure you have the correct wire.

Put a meter on the TACH wire first to see if you have voltage.

Tach SignalD GRN/YEL OR RED / BLUELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROL (EEC)

1989-90 Tach Wire Is D GREEN/ YELLOW or RED / BLUE At EEC Module.

OR

The 3.8L Super Charged engine's TACH wire is a TAN / YELLOW at the rear of the Passengers strut tower, on the Non-Super Charged 3.8L use the YELLOW /GREEN. On the 5.0L use the PINK wire at the rear of the Passengers strut tower.

If you still can't find the tach wire, use one of the injector wires and use the uncommon colored ones ( doesn't matter which injector to use ). Also, did you make sure that you powered up all the IGN & ACC wires for this vehicle ?
