Ok here is something very very interesting, I just put my new 2005 7100 series eclipse aluminums in a basic vented box to break them in,
powered with RMS power only from a HC100.   Have my gains on my EQ, And Amp ALL The way down.
last night I noticed they were sounding slopppy, so I stopped and looked and the port was destroyed, I cracked apart a aeroPort.
When I run the subs on that amp or we tried 2 other diffrent amps, they play fine low but when you turn it up past mid level, the subs over excurt them selves and sound like poop.... I looked at the spider and some of the stiching is popped out and snapped from the excursion.      Any Ideas? Im calling eclipse tomorrow

ok here is what I have been told by eclipse see if this makes sence to you guy's.   By running my gains so low any distortion that makes it to the amp will be overamplified, causing damage to the coils and motor...I am taking them in and I will have a new set by next week

If the signal is clipped before it is amplfied, it is still a clipped signal, just much more noticeable. This could be in part the source material and how it was recorded or the preout of the cd player. Did you have a subsonic filter turned on as well?
Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.
